Context

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Migration Policy Research Division and the direct supervision of the Publications Coordinator based in Headquarters in close coordination with colleagues from the Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) and Migration Governance Indications (MGI) Project team, the successful candidate will be responsible in providing graphic design and layout services to the whole organization. He or she will also be accountable in ensuring that publications are in accordance with the IOM House style manual, layout manual and brand guidelines.

Core Functions / Responsibilities
  1. Provide professional high-quality graphic design and layout services to Headquarters departments, Country and Regional Offices, for publications and other promotional materials, both online and in print. This includes:
    • Design
      • Create professional high-quality graphic design and layout for print and online publications such as, but not limited to, reports, manuals and handbooks, serial publications, periodicals, briefs, newsletters, brochures, bulletins, catalogues, compendiums, infosheets and flyers;
      • Design and layout production of the publications and other printed assets for the Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) project and the Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC);
      • Develop, improve and implement graphic elements (e.g. infographics, graphs, icons, charts and tables), and enhance colour correction / optimize images as necessary, sustaining IOM’s corporate visual identity.
      • Create one-off designs for online and print publications.
    • Finalization for print and online
      • Ensure publications have been duly reviewed by Editors and the Publications Coordinator, including verification of non-English publications by the latter and that layout is in accord with the IOM Publications Layout Manual;
      • Advise Field offices and Procurement about the final layout for printing, i.e. provide specifications, print-ready files and printouts for the printers, check quality of photos and other graphic elements, review and sign off proofs from the printer, for publications printed in Manila.
      • Produce web version files and eBooks format for online dissemination, as necessary.
  2. Develop and update as necessary the IOM Publications Layout Manual to uphold IOM brand guidelines and advise application to Headquarters departments and IOM offices worldwide.
  3. Maintain an up-to-date archive of all publications’ electronic files, repository of logos, icons, templates and ensure proper operation of equipment and design software through regular maintenance and upgrades.
  4. Perform related duties as may be assigned.
Education
  • University degree in Advertising, Fine Arts or a relevant field from an accredited academic institution, with 3 years of relevant professional experience; or
  • Completed High Scholl degree from an accredited academic institution, with 5 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Certificate in computer graphic design, an advantage.
Experience
  • Professional experience in the field of layout and graphic design.
  • Experience in working with printing companies, an advantage.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design;
  • In-depth knowledge of and expertise in a wide range of Adobe Creative Suite software applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat, as well as Microsoft office applications.
  • Knowledge of printing and colour separation processes, is a must;
  • Creative flair and the ability to generate ideas;
  • Familiarity with typography and typesetting preferred;
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and a good eye for details.
Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
